The Australian government recently passed a plain packaging law stating that aside from a graphic health warning the only colour on a pack of cigarettes will be an olive green text baring the name and product of the cigarette. Don Hedley, research analyst at Euromonitor, discusses the implications of this law and how tobacco companies are attempting to fight it. Phillip Morris, British American Tobacco, Imperial and Japan Tobacco International are suing the Australian government on grounds that the law violates the Australian constitution. Hedley also gives his opinion on whether plain packaging actually reduces smoking rates.
